Letter of the week- உ

The fifth letter in Tamil is உ. It is a Kuril ezhuthu. (pronounced with short sound). A simple activity to teach the letter உ is given below:

Materials Required:

Tea powder or Mustard, Glue

Method:

Write the letter உ with the corresponding word or take a printout under over Free printable menu. Apply glue on the picture ( we drew உரல் on the paper) and ask your little one to put the mustard seeds/tea powder on உரல். Keep repeating the letter as you do the activity. This will help them recognize the letter உ.

Few activities you can do for the letter உ:

  1. Trace the letter உ with the index finger. (You can also use Rice/Sand).
  2. Ask the child to keep the pulses above the letter.
  3. Roll the playdough and keep on the letter.
  4. Draw உரல் and ask the child to color. You can also do pounding activity for this (an excellent motor activity for children).
